Metroid: 1986
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
Information
Released in 1986 Metroid is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems. It pioneered the Metroidvania genre which prioritized finding power-ups to return to previously inaccessible areas.
The story follows Samus Aran on the planet Zebes in an attempt to retrieve a predatory organism known as a Metroid from space pirate with a plan to replicate the organism and use them as biological weapons.
Metroid was a critical and commercial success praised for it’s soundtrack and graphic. It also help coin the term for it’s type of game Metroidvania. I also should mention the shock of player finding out Samus was a female protagonist. Nobody knew because of the bulky armour and there weren’t as many girl protagonists in games back then.
