Crane created plenty of games before working for Atari and Activision. He started with creating a realistic walking animation of a man on the Atari hardware and an entire game was build around it.

You play as Pitfall Harry exploring a jungle full of wild animals and hazards to avoid in search of treasure. The player only has 20 minutes to find the treasure. The enemies and hazards of course can deplete both your lives and your points scored.

Reception to Pitfall! was extremely positive with most people calling it one of the greatest games of all time. Unfortunately it seems the original is not very accessible for modern Consoles.

Where to Play?:

Atar 2600

Back

Pitfall: 1982 Atari 2600 Information Released in 1982 for the Atari 2600 Pitfall! is a platformer game developed by David Crane and released y Activision.
